This bike trip offers you a panoramic view of all the Girona’s region: Down from the Pyrenees, across the Garrotxa Region to the major city, Girona, and to the Costa Brava. Then, you will bike north near the coast and visiting many beaches and sleeping in a coastal villages. The tour ends in Figueres city, in the Empordà region.
The first part of the bike tour is ciclyng on the Greenways cycle path. It is the an ancient railway from the tiny train which time ago travelled from the Pyrenees to the Costa Brava, today turned into a track only for hikers an bikers, making it a safe and peaceful cycle tour which allows you enjoy a privileged environment and diverse landscapes, from the volcanoes at the Garrotxa to the Costa Brava beaches and coves, This is a Cycle route for the whole family.
The second part, after Sant Feliu de Guixols goes thought secondary roads and dirty tracks. All of them are indicated in our roadbooks and maps to discover the most interesting points such as the typical medieval villages of the area, Pals or Peretallada, or one of the many natural beaches that you will reach during your bike experience in this priviligied enviroement: The Costa Brava. Also in this visit, and taking advantge of the Emporda wine region, we include in a visit in the Wine Muses “Coll de Roses” in Roses village. The Last day is in Figueres where you can visit the Museum of the quite famous painter Salvador Dali.

DAY BY DAY
FIRST DAY: Settle down in Joanetes
Arrival at Joanetes. Settle down in the hotel and welcome meeting with someone from Touring Catalonia staff to introduce about ‘From the Volcanoes to the Costa Brava bike trip’. Overnight in the fully restored farmhouse in Joanetes, a small and millenary village in the heart of La Garrotxa county, where the route begins
SECOND DAY: Go down from Joanetes to Girona
Today the route descents from Joanetes to Girona by the Greenway cycle path, an easy and safe path, across the countryside and different ancient villages such Sant Feliu de Pallerols, Les Planes d’Hostoles, Amer or Angles. In Amer you can stop an visit its natural sparkling fountain called “Font Picant”. Of course, if you could visit one of these villages, didn’t miss the opportunity to enjoy it. Then, after 4 hours, you will arrive at Girona. There you can visit the Old town, the Cathedral and the magnific Jewish quarter, as well as many historical and art museums. Also, Girona is well-known for its gastronomy. The hotel is located in the city center.
THIRD DAY: Girona to Sant Feliu de Guíxols, reaching the Mediterranean sea
Again, the route the Greenways bike trip continues go down to the Costa Brava. Across some fields and plains, you can reach Cassa de la Selva, Llagostera and Santa Cristina d’Aro before arrive at Sant Feliu de Guíxols, a typical fisherman little town. There you would enjoy its seafront, its beach and its port.
FOURTH DAY: From Sant Feliu de Guíxols to L’Estartit, La Gola del Ter & Medes Islands
You will bike north along and near the beach. You will pass through beaches without buildings and small villages. Then, you will go inside the medieval town of Pals, where you will enjoy the panoramic view of the Empordà. The final part of the track is following the Ter river’s mouth (Gola del Ter), an amazing natural enviroment. After you will arrive at L’Estartit where easily you can enjoy its beach and of course its Medes Islands, a protected area since 1983.
FIFTH DAY: L’Estartit to Roses, Biking along Roses bay
Leaving l’Estartit, you will bike around Montrgí mountain range with its lonly castle in the top. Then, after Bellcaire d’Empordà and Albons you will reach to L’Escala, another lovely tytpical coastal village. In l’Escala there are the famouse Ruines of Empuries, an ancient Greek settlement. Also there is a small and amazing medievall neighborhood called Sant Martí de Empúries, their views of the Roses bay are priceless… After take the bike again and go to Sant Pere Pescador. Following, you will arrive at the Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de L’Empordà. That’s a Natural Parc where you can enjoy the bird watching. Then continue biking along the Roses bay, what is one of the most beautiful experiences that you can have in the Costa Brava, always with the sea on your right side. In Roses you can enjoy its seafront the beach, the citadel and the lighthouse. In Roses you will visit the wine museum where you would taste the wines of L’Empordà.
SIXTH DAY: From Roses to Figueres, across the vineyards
Back to Figueres across small and ancient villages in the countryside, such as Castelló d’Empúries, Vilanova de La Muga or Perelada.And also surronded by vineyards and always with the Pyrenees on the right on your way, it will be the best way to finish your trip in Figueres city: the city of the famous painter Salvador Dalí.
SEVENTH DAY: Sweet Goodbye

HOW TO ARRIVE
By car:
E15/A9 in France and then AP7 until Girona. Then drive across C-66 and A-26 roads until Olot.
Low cost flights are available to Girona Airport (mainly Ryanair, in Summertime more companies are available). Then Transfer to Olot or Bus until Girona and another bus until Olot.
Other option is the Barcelona option. Then take a bus Barcelona city (20 minuts and free) and a train to Girona (40 minuts – 1h30minuts depends on the train). Then Bus to Olot or Private transfer
Upon a request, we even organize transfers from the airport to the starting point of the cycle tour and to the end point to others.
