In Medieval villages bike tour, the history and gastronomy and Costa Brava are the magic ingredients for this tour. In the medieval villages route you will ride through history. Ancient towns, churches, towers… in the medieval ages this was a powerful zone and there are still many signs of it.
The ride is mostly by flat bike paths, along the river, along the coast or in the Greenways. Biking is a unique and way to discover this zone, full of small villages dispersed in the territory.
The Costa Brava has a strong personality. The route will lead you to discover many coastal villages and beaches. Some of them are big and have a promenade, others have no buidings at all, nearly like they were when the iberians lived here…
The route has plenty to offer, not just about history but also about gastronomy, small and charming shops, sites to be discovered…

DAY BY DAY

FIRST DAY: Settle down in Girona

_MG_9188Girona hotel is located in the city centre, just 5 minutes from the train and bus station. Discover the city. Walk through the walls, the Old town, the Jewish quarter, the Catedral, or the bridges on the Onyar river. The route starts here!

SECOND DAY: From Girona – L’Estartit

Gola del Ter - MontrgíWelcome briefing in the hotel and drive until the start point of the route, just 7 km away. The bike paths and secondary roads, will lead you to L’Estartit. The Ter river is going in the same direction than you: the mediterranean sea. The beach of l’Estartit, in front of the Medes Islands, is just 50 meters far from the hotel.

THIRD DAY: L’Estartit – Monells

Bike through medieval villages such as Torroella de Montgrí, Gualta, Serra de Daró. In all of them you can feel how it was many centuries ago: the streets, houses, churches… The journey finishes in Monells, a unique small villages full of ancient buildings, like the hotel where you will sleep.

FORTH DAY: Monells – Peratallada

 Peretallada - ancient wallYou will wake up in a medieval village and you will go to bed in another one. Both of them small, unique and full of history. During the way you will visit another towns and churches, and don’t forget to stop in La Bisbal d’Empordà, and visit the streets where the local ceramic artisans hold the tradition.

FIFTH DAY: Peratallada – Sant Feliu de Guíxols

El Castell beach on PalamosAfter Peratallada you will visit the last entirely conserved medieval town of the tour: Pals, with its tower, square and streets. Then you will bike to the Mediterranean sea. Discover the small, pintoresque and charming villages of Llafranc and Calella and the coves and beaches of Palamos. The sea will be on your side during all the day, don’t forget to take a towl with you!

SIXTH DAY: Sant Feliu de Guíxols – Girona

GironaThe Greenways, a former railway converted in a bike path, connect the port in Sant Feliu de Guíxols to Girona city, the last stop of the route. There, you can walk in the old town and enjoy the gastronomy and lifestyle of this lovely city with 4 rivers.

SEVENTH DAY: Sweet Goodbye

Departure after breakfast.

HOW TO ARRIVE


By car:

N-II in France and then AP7 until Girona

By train:

You can arrive until Girona train Station. You can check the timetables and prices here: http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/horarios.html

By plane:

Low cost flights are available to Girona Airport (mainly Ryanair, in Summertime more companies are available). Then Transfer to Girona or Bus .

Other option is the Barcelona option. Then take a bus Barcelona city (20 minuts and free) and a train to Girona  train station  You can check the timetables and prices here: http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/horarios.html.

Upon a request, we even organize transfers from the airport to the starting point of the cycle tour and to the end point to others.
